The Palms

We spent 5 nights at one of our favorite RV Resorts last month. “The Palms” in Yuma AZ.  It’s a great place to visit or spend the winter.  The 55 and older park is one of the best and man do those folks know how to have a good time.

We went to the weekly “Beer and Burger Bash” held every Saturday from noon till 3.  I was a Blast as well as a Bash.  They have a one man band ( seen in the photo below) and the residents get up and dance their hearts out.  As they dance, working up a sweat, the need to cool off overwhelms them and one by one or should I say many by many they jump in the pool fully clothed.  This doesn’t stop the dancing mind you, they keep right on going in the water.  We laughed a lot that day with our good friends the Mosbys.

Here’s a picture of one of my favorite casitas in the park.  They are all very different, but mostly keeping in the southwestern style.

The activities are too numerous and diverse to mention here. However I would advise anyone traveling through Yuma to check it out. You will not be sorry.

We wanted to stay a bit longer, but sadly we had to go back to work. No changing that, so we accept  the good with the bad.  Enjoy the moment, because,,,,, “It Is What It Is”

Nearing the End

The end of what you might say?  The end of our long and relaxing winter…….I chime.

We have been full time RV’ers for nine years now, we work for 6 months then play for 6.  The part where we play and don’t work being, the part that is coming to an end.

Almost time to return to our job and begin the countdown.   We really do a countdown.. The day we start working (usually the 26th or 27th of March) Mike and I number the calendar.  We fast forward to September 30th and that becomes day number 1 then the 29th is day number 2 and so on all the way backwards till we reach our starting day in late March.

This way, every morning when we open the doors and begin our day we can see in a split second how much longer it will be until we can play again.

It is the best way we know to torture ourselves with just how long 188 days can really be.  We work everyday, 7 days a week  at least 13 hours a day and up to 15 on weekends and holidays.  (188 days in a row no time off)  Yes,  I really said that.

Goes to show you how desperate a “not” completely retired person can be and what they are willing to do so they can “act” retired for the other six months of the year.

So here we are  facing another count down  that tells us how many days we have left to play before we begin our work and the countdown to play again.   Maybe I should have titled this blog The Countdown.

As I read what I am writing, I wonder how many others have these helpful tricks up their sleeves to ensure their sanity.     I am guessing more then me.  Or rather hoping I am not alone.

Alas,  It is what it is.
